December 2022
- Southern State's Dr. Erika Goodwin Reappointed as Higher Learning Commission Peer Reviewer
- Dr. Erika Goodwin, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Southern State, has been selected by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) for reappointment as Peer Reviewer to serve a four-year term (September 1, 2023 - August 31, 2027). This will be her third term serving in the role.
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's PN program celebrates graduation
- Ten graduates of ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Practical Nursing program were recognized during a Dec. 8 pinning ceremony at the college's Central Campus in Hillsboro.
- Auditions for ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Theatre's "Moonlight and Magnolias" will be on Jan. 13 & 14
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Theatre will hold auditions for the spring production of "Moonlight and Magnolias," by Ron Hutchinson.
- Open to community members and students, auditions will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, January 13, and at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 14, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.
- Doug Daniels named new Commander of Southern State's Police Academy
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ is pleased to announce Doug Daniels, of Greenfield, as the new Commander of the Ohio Basic Peace Officer Academy (OPOTA).

- Southern State students inducted into PTK honor society
- The membership of one of higher education's most recognized honor societies, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), was enhanced by the induction of several new members at a November 17 ceremony held on ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Central Campus.
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees to meet November 17
- The ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17 on ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Hillsboro Campus, Room 103, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro for their regular Board meeting.
- Virtual Reality brings new ways of learning to Southern State
- The use of virtual reality is bringing about many new ways of learning at ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ. Often referred to as VR technology, virtual reality uses computer mechanics to create a simulated environment that can be explored in 360 degrees. Unlike traditional interfaces, VR technology places the user inside the virtual environment to give an immersive experience.

- The ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees' Long-Term Planning/Facilities Committee is scheduled to meet TODAY, October 31, at 3:00 p.m. on ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Hillsboro Campus.
- Dr. Angel Mootispaw and Cathy Zile from Southern State selected to present at Quality Matters (QM) Connect Conference in Arizona
- Dr. Angel Mootispaw, Director of Instructional Technology, and Cathy Zile, Learning Management System Administrator, from ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ will be presenting at the annual Quality Matters (QM) Connect Conference - November 8, 2022 in Tucson, Arizona.
- Spring Semester scholarship application now open at Southern State - APPLY TODAY
- Students enrolled, or planning to enroll, at ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ for Spring Semester, which begins January 9, 2023, have the opportunity to benefit from a variety of financial resources offered to help offset the cost of a college education.
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Educators Earn ACUE Certification
- During a special pinning ceremony, held virtually via Zoom, on Southern State's Central Campus, six educators from the College were recognized for earning their ACUE Certification in Effective Online Teaching Practices.

- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Theatre presents "Steel Magnolias," playing November 4-6 in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday matinee begins at 3:30 p.m.
September 2022
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Awards First Katie Bailey Memorial Scholarship to Karleigh Hopkins
- The ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Foundation has announced Karleigh Hopkins as the recipient of the Katie Bailey Memorial Scholarship for the 2022-23 academic year.
- Governor DeWine Reappoints Chandler and Boedeker to ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees
- Governor Mike DeWine recently announced the reappointment of Randy N. Chandler of West Union (Adams County) and Douglas W. Boedeker of Washington Court House (Fayette County) to the ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees, both with terms ending May 11, 2028.
- Cancellation of ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees meeting on September 14
- The ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees has cancelled their previously scheduled Sept. 14 meeting. Their next scheduled meeting will be on Wed., October 12.
- Southern State's Dr. Julianne Krebs promoted to Dean of Health Sciences
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Julianne Krebs, Director of Nursing, to Dean of Health Sciences.
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ announces honors lists for summer semester
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ has released its President's List and Dean's List for academic excellence for Summer Semester 2022. To be eligible for the President's List, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average while carrying a specific number of academic credit hours. Those who achieve the Dean's List are full-time students who have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0.
- Learning how to improve patient care through simulation
- National Healthcare Simulation Week will be held Sept. 12-16, 2022. To celebrate, and increase awareness regarding the importance of simulation to healthcare, ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ will be hosting a variety of activities on their central campus in Hillsboro.

- The ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Foundation has announced Penny Miller as the recipient of the Joyce Fender Family Scholarship for the 2022-23 academic year.
- Investiture Ceremony held for ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ President
- The investiture for Dr. Nicole Roades, the 6th president at ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ was held Monday, August 15 in the Edward K. Daniels Memorial Auditorium on the Central Campus in Hillsboro.
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Awards NCB Minority Excellence Scholarship to Josie Hopkins, Alicia Robinson and Cae'don Brennan
- National Cooperative Bank (NCB) and the ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Foundation have announced Josie Hopkins as one of the recipients of the NCB Minority Excellence Scholarship for the 2022-2023 academic year.
- Auditions for ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Theatre's "Steel Magnolias" will be August 26 and 27
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Theatre will hold auditions for the fall production of "Steel Magnolias,"" by Robert Harling. Open to community members and students, auditions will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 26, and at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees to meet August 10
- The ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 10 on ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Hillsboro Campus, Room 347, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro for their regular Board meeting.
- Learning to code with droids
- Nearly 30 students and STEM educators flocked to ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ in Hillsboro July 25-26 to learn coding and electronics with R2-D2, the beloved droid character from the "Star Wars" franchise.
July 2022
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ profs recognized
- Two ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ faculty members were recently recognized by the Ohio Department of Higher Education for assisting with the Ohio Transfer 36 initiative, a new process for reviewing statewide transfer guarantees.
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ engineering grad at P&G
- Matt Corcoran didn't plan on landing a job at Procter & Gamble, but thanks to a little help from ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ, he is now a packaging engineer for the multinational cleaning goods company.
- Dr. Nicole Roades has taken the helm as sixth president of ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ, replacing Dr. Kevin Boys, who retired at the end of June.
- Roades, former Vice President of Academics at the college, said she was looking forward to leading the college into a new era while continuing the practices that have made ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ a first choice for prospective students in the area.
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Basic Peace Officers complete training
- The cadets of ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Basic Peace Officer Training Academy were recognized at a special ceremony held June 29 at the college's Central Campus in Hillsboro.
June 2022
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ prof develops Star Wars coding class
- Three ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ students recently had an opportunity to help teach two Star Wars-themed coding classes at a fan gathering in California, and the same class is coming to ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's central campus July 25-26.
- College in high school
- Local grad halfway through associate degree
When Gabe Campagna graduated high school in May, he was halfway finished with an associate degree from ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ.
While Campagna, 18, Washington Court House, was attending high school, he was also taking college classes through College Credit Plus, a program that allows local high school students to begin getting a college degree before they've graduated - at no cost.
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Boys to be Honored as President Emeritus
- At their June 16 Board meeting, the ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees approved to confer the title of President Emeritus upon Dr. Kevin Boys, effective on his retirement date, July 1, 2022.

- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Theatre announces their 17th Season
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Theatre is pleased to announce their upcoming 17th, 2022-2023 season, including "Steel Magnolias," playing November 4-6, 2022. "Moonlight and Magnolias" will appear in the spring, playing April 14-16, 2023. Both productions will be presented in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

- The ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 6 on ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Hillsboro Campus, Room 347, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro for their regular Board meeting.

- Phi Theta Kappa members attend conference, win awards
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's Phi Theta Kappa honor society chapter recently visited a national conference in Colorado and picked up a bevy of honors at an awards program, according to the chapter advisor.
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ appoints Dr. Erika Goodwin Vice President of Academic Affairs
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ has announced that Dr. Erika Goodwin has been appointed its next Vice President of Academic Affairs beginning June 1, 2022. She will replace Dr. Nicole Roades who was named the College's 6th President. Goodwin comes to Southern State from Wilmington College where she has had a 27-year career as both a senior staff member, most recently Provost and Chief of Staff, and as a tenured full professor of Sport Sciences and Athletic Training.
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ police academy in Hillsboro
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ announced Monday that its Basic Peace Officer Training Academy has moved from Washington Court House to Hillsboro and classes will begin in August.
March 2022
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees to meet March 22
- The ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ Board of Trustees will meet at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 22, in the large conference room at the Ohio Association of Community Colleges offices, 175 S. Third St., Suite 560, Columbus. The meeting is open to the public.
- ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ honor society finds success amid challenges
- When the first Covid-19 cases began to appear in Ohio in March 2020, Susan Morris had a choice to make: Let the pandemic choke the life out of ³Ô¹Ï²»´òìÈ's small Phi Theta Kappa chapter for which she was the advisor, or let it be an opportunity to make something bigger and better.
